Wedding Videos at Home, Farms & Private Estates
Some of my favourite weddings haven't been in castles or country houses.
They've been in family gardens. On working farms. Under marquees built just a few metres from the house where someone grew up.
They always have a different feel.
Guests arrive early and settle in. The kitchen becomes the place everyone naturally gathers. Someone's dog is never too far away. Friends catch up over a cup of tea before the celebrations begin, while family members quietly get everything ready.
It doesn't feel like a venue, it feels like home.
Why an at-home wedding is worth filming
Every wedding tells a story, but weddings at home often tell one that's been unfolding for years.
The house where everyone gathers for Christmas. The garden where family parties have always been held. The farm that's been looked after by generations before you.
Those places already carry memories long before a wedding day arrives.
That's one of the reasons I love filming weddings like these. You're not simply capturing one day—you’re preserving a place that already means something to the people in it.
Years from now, the flowers will be different, the marquee long gone and the decorations packed away, but the garden, the yard or the family home will still be there. Every time you visit, you'll remember exactly how it felt.
Colin & Paul's wedding at Brackenless Farm
There was something really special about Colin & Paul's wedding at Brackenless Farm.
Not because it was on a farm, but because it was their farm.
Together they're carefully restoring it, so choosing to get married there meant they weren't simply hiring a venue for the weekend—they were inviting everyone into a place that already meant something.
From the moment guests arrived, the atmosphere felt relaxed. People wandered between the courtyard and the barns, catching up with family and friends while music drifted through the farm buildings. It never felt like people were waiting for the wedding to begin. They were already part of it.
The ceremony took place inside one of the beautifully restored barns, where Colin and Paul exchanged personal vows surrounded by the people who know them best. There were plenty of laughs, a few happy tears, and the kind of moments that happen when everyone feels completely comfortable.
After dinner and speeches, we headed out across the fields as the evening light settled over the farm. There wasn't a strict schedule to follow—just a few quiet minutes together before everyone gathered again for the evening celebrations.
The surprises weren't over either. A choir performance had everyone on their feet before fireworks lit up the sky above Brackenless Farm, bringing an unforgettable day to a close.
Watching their wedding back, Brackenless Farm feels like another member of the family. It isn't just the backdrop to the day, it's woven through every part of it.
April & Dougie's family farm wedding
April and Dougie chose to celebrate their wedding in a place that had been part of their lives long before they got engaged.
After saying their vows in the local church, everyone made their way back to the family farm, where a marquee had been set up overlooking the fields. It was a setting that couldn't have felt more personal. Friends and family knew the place well, conversations started the moment people arrived, and the whole day had a wonderfully relaxed feel.
One of the things I love about weddings like this is how naturally they unfold. There isn't a feeling of arriving at a venue where everything is unfamiliar. People settle in straight away. Guests wander between the marquee and the garden, catching up with people they haven't seen in years, while others simply find a quiet spot to enjoy the view and soak it all in.
As the day moved into the speeches, it became obvious just how loved April and Dougie are. There were stories that had everyone laughing, moments that caught people by surprise, and the kind of words that will mean just as much in twenty years as they do now.
As the evening arrived, the celebrations stepped up another level. A live saxophonist filled the dancefloor before everyone piled in to celebrate well into the night. It was joyful, relaxed and completely true to them.
Looking back, it's hard to imagine their wedding anywhere else.
Long after the marquee comes down, the memories stay exactly where they were made. I think that's what makes weddings like this so special to film.
Megan & Fraser's garden wedding at Balgavies House
Megan and Fraser's wedding was centred around one thing from the very beginning—bringing everyone together at Megan's family home.
The morning started inside the house as preparations quietly got underway, while outside, the gardens were transformed ready for the ceremony. By the time guests arrived, the whole place felt full of excitement without ever losing that relaxed atmosphere that home weddings do so well.
With the sun shining overhead, they exchanged vows outdoors surrounded by family and friends before everyone stayed exactly where they were for confetti, drinks and canapés. Live jazz drifted across the gardens while guests found shady spots to catch up, making the afternoon feel wonderfully unhurried.
As the day continued into dinner, speeches and a packed dancefloor, there was never a sense that people were moving between different parts of a venue. The entire celebration happened in a place that already meant something to everyone there.
That's what makes weddings like Megan and Fraser's so memorable.
You're not borrowing somewhere beautiful for the day, you're celebrating somewhere that's already part of your family's story.
Planning a wedding at home, on a farm or at a private estate?
Whether you're celebrating in a family garden, on a working farm or at a private estate, these weddings have a way of feeling completely personal from the moment guests arrive.
My approach is always the same: to film the day naturally, without interrupting it, so years from now you can remember not just how everything looked, but how it felt.
