Penicuik Estate Wedding Videographer

Natural, joyful wedding films at one of Scotland's most beautiful country estates.

If you're planning your wedding at Penicuik Estate, you've chosen somewhere pretty special.

Just outside Edinburgh, Penicuik Estate has everything you could want for a Scottish wedding. A beautiful historic house, incredible grounds, a peaceful loch, woodland walks and a stunning Orangery for celebrating with all your favourite people.

It's also a lovely venue for couples travelling from overseas, particularly if you're planning to stay for a few days and make a whole weekend of your wedding.

I've had the pleasure of filming two very different celebrations here, and it's one of those venues that really lends itself to the way I like to capture weddings. Plenty of space for everyone to relax, beautiful surroundings and lots of opportunities for those natural, unscripted moments that make a wedding film feel personal.

Below you can watch both celebrations and get a feel for what a wedding at Penicuik Estate can look like.

Vaughn & William's Penicuik Estate Wedding Film

Vaughn and William travelled from the United States with their friends and family to celebrate their wedding at Penicuik Estate.

The morning began with everyone getting ready in the beautiful rooms of Penicuik House before heading down through the grounds for their outdoor ceremony beside the High Pond.

It's such a lovely setting for a ceremony, surrounded by trees with the water in the background, and it gave the whole occasion a really relaxed feel.

Afterwards, everyone was piped back to the house, where drinks, canapés and plenty of congratulations filled the courtyard. There was time for a cake cutting and for guests to catch up before moving into the Orangery for speeches and dinner.

And then came the dancing.

The evening celebrations were full of energy, with a packed dance floor and everyone completely throwing themselves into the party.

I loved the mixture of moments throughout their day. From the quieter excitement of getting ready to the emotion of the ceremony and the brilliant atmosphere in the evening, there was so much to capture.

Their film is a lovely example of how a full wedding day can unfold at Penicuik Estate.

Why I Love Filming Weddings at Penicuik Estate

What I particularly like about Penicuik Estate is how much variety there is without needing to travel between different venues.

The house itself has so much character, with beautiful rooms for getting ready and plenty of natural light. Step outside and you've got the courtyard, gardens, woodland and the High Pond, all offering something completely different.

From a filming perspective, that means I can capture lots of different parts of the day while keeping everything relaxed.

I don't like taking couples away from their guests for long periods or turning their wedding into a photoshoot. At Penicuik Estate, it's easy to find a quiet spot for a few minutes together before heading straight back to the celebrations.

And because so much of the day can happen in one place, there's a lovely sense of everyone being together, from the morning preparations right through to the evening party.

Wedding Ceremonies at the High Pond

One of the most beautiful spots at Penicuik Estate is the High Pond.

Surrounded by woodland and the rolling landscape of the estate, it's a wonderfully peaceful setting for an outdoor wedding ceremony.

Vaughn and William chose to get married here, with their guests gathered beside the water.

For me, ceremonies are one of the most important parts of the wedding film. The vows, the reactions from family and friends, those little glances between you both – they're moments you really can't recreate.

My approach is to film everything as discreetly as possible, capturing the ceremony naturally without getting in the way.

And with a backdrop like the High Pond, you really don't need anything else.

Wedding Receptions in the Orangery and Courtyard

Another highlight of Penicuik Estate is the way the celebrations can move between the house, courtyard and Orangery.

The courtyard is a brilliant space for drinks and canapés, particularly when the weather is lovely and everyone can enjoy being outside.

It's usually one of my favourite parts of any wedding to film. Everyone's relaxed after the ceremony, there are hugs and congratulations happening everywhere, and it's a great opportunity to capture your friends and family enjoying themselves.

Then there's the Orangery.

With its large windows, views across the grounds and beautiful natural light, it's a lovely setting for speeches and dinner. And as the evening gets going, the space takes on a completely different atmosphere for dancing.

Vaughn and William's wedding was a great example of just how lively those evening celebrations can be.

Sarah & Zach's Wedding Weekend at Penicuik Estate

One of the things that makes Penicuik Estate particularly special is the opportunity to turn your wedding into a whole weekend of celebrations.

Sarah and Zach travelled from the United States for a three-day wedding celebration, bringing their friends and family together to enjoy everything the estate has to offer.

I joined them for the first two days, capturing the celebrations leading up to their wedding.

There were Highland games, lunch and drinks beside the loch, a few brave guests taking a dip in the water and plenty of time for everyone to relax and enjoy being together.

Later, everyone gathered in the courtyard for champagne before an intimate dinner and speeches.

It was such a lovely couple of days to film. There was no rush, no strict schedule to follow, just everyone enjoying themselves and so many brilliant little moments happening throughout.

Their film shows a completely different side of Penicuik Estate from Vaughn and William's wedding day, and it's a great example of why I love filming the celebrations that happen before the wedding itself.

Planning a Wedding Weekend at Penicuik Estate?

If you're travelling to Scotland for your wedding, particularly from the United States or further afield, having a few extra days together can make the whole experience feel even more special.

Penicuik Estate is perfect for this, with accommodation across the estate and plenty of space for activities, welcome drinks, dinners and celebrations.

Alongside filming your wedding day, I offer additional coverage for the events leading up to it, whether that's Highland games, a relaxed rehearsal dinner the evening before or a full day of activities with your guests.

These moments can be incorporated into your wedding film or captured as a separate film dedicated to the weekend celebrations.

My Approach to Penicuik Estate Wedding Videography

My wedding films are all about capturing the day as it actually felt.

The laughter during the morning preparations, the nerves before the ceremony, the reactions from your family, the speeches that make everyone laugh or cry, and the brilliant moments on the dance floor.

I work in a relaxed, documentary style, blending in with your guests and letting everything happen naturally.

There won't be lots of posing, repeated moments or interruptions to your day. I want you to enjoy every minute of your wedding while I quietly capture the story unfolding around you.

Having filmed at Penicuik Estate before, I'm familiar with the different spaces and how the celebrations can move through the grounds, from preparations in the house to the High Pond, courtyard and Orangery.

It means I can focus on the things that really matter – the people, the atmosphere and all those moments you'll love looking back on.
